Visit to the Zoo

I think Danny likes the fish the best. On Monday's the zoo is FREE to Cuyahoga County residents, so that is when we go.

Pennsylvania Vacation

Jason, Danny and I headed to the middle of Pennslyvania for a week in July. We were at a little state park called Black Moshannon, it was mostly a little bog, but it was connected to a good sized reservoir complete with boat rentals, and a swimming beach. It was perfect for us.

Most of the morning Danny would sleep, so Jason and I had plenty of time to sit out on the porch, drink coffee, and read our 4" books, which we both finished by the end of the week. After Danny got up we usually went for a hike (Danny is good for about 4 miles, he can't handle much more than that), and then to the beach to cool off after that. It was a nice routine.

One day we explored the bog, there was a wooden bridge trail that went right through the bog. The bog was home to wild blueberries (this eastern side of the US is the origin for the highbush cultivars we all know and love) and cranberries. The soil must have been very acidic because in addition to these acid-loving berries, this area was also home to many different mushrooms that were all over the place, and had several varieties of Rhodedendron's as well. Rhody's and azalea's are from the family Ericaceae, literally meaning "acid-loving." So it was kind of fun putting that together. But it kind of stank, so we only went there once.

One night we went to the local drive-in movie. That was fun. We thought Danny would be happy in the back of the Roadmaster, we laid the seats down flat, put toys back there, blankets, etc. But no, he wanted to be up front with us, leaning on the horn, putting greasy fingers on the rear-view mirror, and changing the radio station as often as he could get away with it. Finally, he fell asleep just as the new Batman came on, so we did get to see that one. The movie before that, Hancock, I think we only saw a few minutes of, but that was about all we needed anyway.
